Joe and I met on Craigslist in 2004.
Who knew what would come of such an odd encounter, even after our in-person-meet-cute, a week later in front of Virgin Records at Union Square in New York City. We felt an instant connection that was, posíblemente, love at first sight.
I’ve been a flight attendant for twenty five years, and Joe is a composer and teacher. We have a ten year old son and a cute female Corgi. Joe’s retiring from teaching after a 34 year career- he began as a high school band director in Seattle and is ending as an elementary music teacher in Brooklyn. We have mostly lived here since we met, with stints in Upstate New York, Colorado, and Mexico.
In April 2025 we closed on the purchase of a unique property on the Tigre Delta north of Buenos Aires, Argentina. For lots of reasons, the timing is right for a move to South America, and the property we found is perfectly suitable for siguiendo un sueño, or following a dream: create an artist residency and retreat. It will take some time for the project to launch and we will chronicle the journey. We hope to share what our day-to-day life is like in Argentina, while renovating the property to suit our family’s needs and creating a welcoming venue for artists and community.
If you dream of traveling or moving abroad, or taking on big projects on a wing and a prayer, we hope you’ll follow along. For artists who might one day be in residence at Club Artes, you’ll get a feel of what the space will offer. If you simply want to linger because you think it all sounds fun, you’re welcome!
Joe or I will post at least once each week, on Fridays. We’ll share our progress on our river home setting and the residency/ retreat. When we are ready to host events, we’ll share what’s on tap. For now, our Substack will be available for free. When we launch paid subscriptions, we will welcome anyone interested in supporting Club Artes, directly benefitting artists in residency and the cultural community we’re hoping to become part of.
